Primetime Expo, Annie Gunn’s Chef & Fighting Viral Hate All Part of St. Louis Jewish Book Festival Events in October

The St. Louis Jewish Book Festival offers a variety of year-round events including several in October.  Their 35th annual event runs November 3 - 17. 


October 10th - 7:30pm / Walking in the Shadow of Tyranny (FREE)

An exploration and discussion of Jewish life in Hungary under Communist rule, following the Nazi devastation of WW II; based on the continually optimistic and amazing survival of Alicia Karpati.

Featuring: Noemi Karpati Neidorff; Dr. Robert E. Lefton; Dr. Linda Pitelka

October 17th -  7:30pm 

            Chef Lou Rook III - ROOK COOKS: Simplicity at Its Finest ($15)

Renowned Annie Gunn’s chef, Rook shares a collection of his favorite recipes along with Missouri wine pairings. Recipes perfect for the home cook…from the “knucklehead” to the kitchen pro. Enjoy special kosher versions of recipes for sampling.


October 23rd - 7:30pm  

            Abraham Foxman / VIRAL HATE: Containing Its Spread on the Internet ($18)

The anonymity of the Internet is used to bully and spread lies and racist rants, without fear of repercussion.  Foxman, the National Director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reveals today’s struggle to reconcile freedom of speech issues faced by social media, including Facebook, YouTube, Google, with the disturbing threat posed by today’s purveyors of hate; and shares the tools citizens can use to fight back.


October 27th 11am – 3pm Primetime Expo 2013 (FREE)


The Festival partners with the St. Louis Jewish Light to present the South Beach Diet creator, author and renowned cardiologist, discussing the benefits of a delicious, doctor-designed, gluten-aware plan for losing weight and feeling great--FAST, as well as other issues related to healthy aging. Dr. Agatston will speak at 11:30am on the main stage. A book-signing will follow his presentation. His books will be for sale at event. 

Primetime Expo will feature exhibitors from a wide range of categories such as Retirement Living; Health, Wellness and Fitness; Financial Services; Dining; Insurance; Senior Care; Home Improvement and Modification; Elder and Estate Planning Law; Technology; Recreation; Travel; Education; Medicaid and Not-for-Profit Agencies.

The 35th Annual St. Louis Jewish Book Festival hosts thirty-eight authors and special guests participating in a variety of events for all tastes from November 3 to 17.  Tickets for individual programs, Series and Series PLUS tickets are on sale now online at www.stljewishbookfestival.org , by phone at 314-442-3299, or at the JCC Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur and the Marilyn Fox Building in Chesterfield.  Series PLUS Tickets include admission to all author events October 2013 through July 2014.
